Selection Criteria and Filters

Selection criteria filter the items which are displayed in the main panel for the object, component and change request views of a location.

Clicking the 'Select' button or pressing the return key will cause the specified selection criteria to be applied to the items which are displayed in the main panel. Clicking the 'Refresh' button will refresh the screen.

Selection Combo-box

The selection criteria are entered in the text box at the left-hand end of the select toolbar. The ten most recently used (MRU) criteria are available from the drop-down list next to this.

The status of the items which are displayed can also be controlled using the drop-down list for status.

The selection criteria can be specified in a number of standard ways:

Method Example
Select with a wildcard ABC*
Select with a single-character wildcard ABC2?
Select and de-select a wildcard AB*;'ABC*
Multiple independent criteria ABC*;BBC*;

For objects, a special selection notation enables the highest versions at the location to be selected. Instead of naming the version number (e.g. A*/1.3), use the letter 'h' (e.g. A*/1.h). Note that this refers to the highest version which is active at that location. There may be other higher versions which are not at that location, for example, ABC/1.3 may be the highest version in LIB, although ABC/1.4 is under development in DEV.

Deleteing MRU Cache

VC/m stores the ten most recently used (MRU) criteria for each folder view. It also automatically populates the selection crtieria and filter tools with the last used combination. This cache can be deleted.

From the menu bar, choose Settings -> Delete MRU Cache.

Filter Buttons

The filter buttons determine which kinds of items should be displayed. The buttons have different icons depending on which view you are in. Some options are only available in working locations (marked with a 'W' below) and others are only available in library locations (marked with an 'L' below).
