A change request is the definition of a change that is to be made to the source code managed by VC/m. It specifies the object versions which are to be changed and the reason for the change. It therefore provides a record of which object versions have been changed in connection with any one task.

A change request also acts as a tool to group objects together so that they can easily be moved as one unit.

Change Request Types

Each change request is of a specified change request type, e.g. edit, bug fix, development project, customization work. The system manager is responsible for setting up and managing the change request types for the VC/m environment.

Change Request Status

For each change request type, change request statuses can also be defined. These define the sequence of stages which the change request must pass through. Each stage can optionally be tied to a location.
